Sizing Down Introduction in Adobe Photoshop Using Canvas Size in Adobe Photoshop
May 14

I have opened an image in the Photoshop which looks like this. (Zoomed to 12.5%).

You can download this image at here.

I want to resize this image for print. I want o resize it to 5/7 actually 5/7 is the print size. and I am going to use Auto Feature to do this.

Go to Image > Image Size. It will open ‘Image Size’ Dialog Box. shown below.

Right now its set to 150 Pixels/inch (shown in above picture).
Now our document is currently 11.36/15.147 inches (in the document size area). Now type in ‘5′ instead of 11.36 in front of ‘Width’, since its strained, it will automatically adjust the height. the height becomes 6.667 , but we want 7. So if I type 7 in the ‘Height’ it will change width to 5.25. Its not quite on the mark. What that means is I can crop off a quarter of inch in width to make it work.
Now click on the Auto button in the right side of the ‘Image Size’ window. Shown below.

When you click on Auto it will open a dialog box shown below.

And what Auto means is Auto Resolution. This is kind of a calculator for print.
Now I want to tend to use the Best Quality. So select Best in the dialog box (shown above). Now for news print we can have 75 lines/inch. But when you go in the magazine or glossy prints you might have 150 lines/inch. So what is Auto Resolution doing. When i am on best quality it doubles my lines streams to my resolution.
Now type 150 in the ‘Screen’ and click OK. This changed my resolution to 300 pixels/inch. as shown below.

But the purpose of the Auto is to give us the resolution what we need to make it happen. Now press OK. I approximately resized my image for print.
