Flipping Canvas in Adobe Photoshop Digg is Down
May 14

I have opened an Image in Photoshop. Shown below.

You can download this image at HERE.

I want to rotate this image, but I want to rotate it slightly, not 90 degrees or 180 degrees.
So go to Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary, as shown below.

It will open a ‘Rotate Canvas’ Dialog box. Shown below.

Now in front of angle type in any value for the angle. I typed 6 with CW (Clockwise Direction) and clicked OK. I got the following results.

Notice that it added a new canvas which is of white color. To change the color undo it, then change your background color in the tool, then again repeat the previous step.
Consider if you have taken a picture wrong, I mean you held your camera sideways. Like in the picture shown below.

You can find this picture HERE.

Now we need to adjust this picture at a particular angle, but we don’t know the angle. To get the required angle, get the Ruler or Measure Tool in the tools bar. Its underneath the eye dropper tool shown below.

Now zoom in the picture to 100%. Now find any straight surface. You can see the building at the left, Or you can use the empire state building.

Now with your Measure Tool selected draw a line with the building wall from bottom to top, as shown below.

Make sure you draw this line from bottom to top. Red line in the above picture indicates the line drawn by Measure Tool.

Now what you get is, the angle, its 96.6 (It may be slightly different at your side). You can see this angle in the options bar at the top. shown in below picture.

Now again go to Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary. The interesting thing you now see is that an angle has been entered for me in the dialog box. That is because I drew a line with the measure tool, It now thing it knows what the vertical is. Dialog is shown below.

Click OK on the Rotate Canvas Dialog box. And the results you get are shown below.

Its perfect, it made the empire state building vertical. The building on which I drew line is perfectly vertical. What Photoshop has done is add more canvas or image area to the image so didn’t have to clip off sections of the image.

This is how you rotate the images with Arbitrary using the Measure Tool.
