Why do Norton Personal Firewall blocks websites logins Customizing Internet Explorer Cookies Handeling

Microsoft seems to have a tough time balancing security and simplicity. By default, the new and improved version of Internet Explorer that SP2 installs (without asking you, of course) doesn’t let you download any files from the Internet. To override this dumb default, choose Tools > Internet Options, click the Security Tab, click the Downloads section, click Enable under “File download,” and then click OK. You’ll be able to download from anywhere now.

With this updated IE, you can choose to allow downloads only from certain sites. To use this feature, don’t turn off download blocking. When you get to a site from which you want to accept downloads, click IE’s Information Bar (which appears under the Address Bar when a download or pop-up is blocked) and choose “Allow this page to download files”. You’ll be able to download files from that site from now.

How to Turn off Notifications box:
Whenever you successfully download a file, Internet Explorer pops up a box giving you the news. But this reminder can be real annoyance: it pops up over whatever you’re currently doing and won’t go away until you click it. Here’s how to stop the box from popping up:

1. Run the Registry Editor.

2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER_Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.

3. Locate the NotifyDownloadComplete item in the right hand window. Double-click it and, in the “value data” box, change yes to no.

4. Exit the Registry, and close and restart Internet Explorer. You may need to restart your computer from the change to take effect.
