Pros: Low power (.55 amp) the same as my stock 4200rpm. i have to press my head hard on my notebook to hear it. zero vibration period. loads games and apps at near desktop speeds. stays cool at all times. this drive is also not thick like some others. it is the same thickness as any old ATA-6 type drive.

Cons: None that i can think of. I couldn’t ask for a better deal.

Delivered well packaged, fast delivery Slide right in the slot Functions flawlessly in the MacBook. Silent operation Excellent Price!
Drive used more power than the external enclosure could provide, needed to plug the enclosure into AC outlet, but then it was fine, but I expected this to be the case. So no biggie!
I tried to copy the data from the old drive to the new drive using the Disk Utility, it ran for about 2 hours then died, the MacBook just froze up, So the second try I used SuperDuper, free download, I left for 3 hours and when I game back the 60 gig was copied.

No noticeable lag in performance compared to 60 GB 7200 rpm drive. Quieter scores 4.7 in vista performance test
Runs Hot, but then again, so did my old drive. only 149GB in windows
Very well constructed. Highly reccomend if you want to dual boot WinXP and Vista on a laptop. Newegg shipping was on target

  3. Joe Bob Says:

Quick and quiet (caveat: see cons).
It’s quiet 99% of the time but the 1% parking “klink” gets annoying quickly. It’s in my MacBook Pro now but may soon be swapped to my PS3 where I won’t hear the klink. Also, while most drives fail early, if they’re going to fail at all, the one year warranty isn’t so great.
Go with Seagate. I like my 120 GB momentus and the 80 GB that was in my MacBook Pro was fine (apart from the size).

  4. IT Guy Says:

I ordered this drive to replace my 80GB that was included in my notebook. I recieved it, and cloned my original hardrive to this one, and installed it. This drive is the same RPM as my 80, but faster. I noticed about 10 second quicker load time to Vista.

i bought this drive to replace my 160gb @4200rpm that came with my toshiba p-105 series. but not all p-105 series have this speed. some are 5400rpm? well my stock drive now sits in an external SATA enclosure made for full sized hdd’s but it works fine and stays cool.

  6. Hasting Says:

Installed into a Vantec 2.5″ enclosure and it fit perfectly, runs quiet and after it was partitioned I ran a check and found no bad sectors or problems. Seems to be good deal for fast disk space.

Great upgrade for the PS3 HDD. It was easy to install in less than 10 minutes. It doesn’t generate any more heat or noise than the original (Mine was the 20gb). The price even dropped $5 between the time I ordered and it was delivered. Newegg was kind enough to refund the difference. They even shipped it the same business day.

I’ve always liked Western Digital brand hard drives so I just bought a laptop and needed alot more space so I picked up this drive and so far it does not disappoint. It fits and works perfectly in my laptop couldn’t be happier with it.
After formatting and installing Windows Vista it turns out to be 143gb’s free of space which is alot for a laptop but I’m not complaining. Buy it from newegg, they have cheap + fast shipping and the price is reasonable than on other sites that sell these drives.

Drive performs excellently! I upgraded from a 100GB 7200RPM drive, and was worried about the speed loss with this 5400RPM drive. I hooked both drives up as storage drives on a desktop (SATA jacks are the same) and tested both drives with HD Tach. I was very impressed. This 160GB drive averaged 38MB/s throughput vs 41MB/s for the 7200RPM. Personally, the 60GB extra was worth the slight loss in speed (which is not noticeable at all). In addition, the burst speed was higher with the 160GB drive (121MB/s vs 109MB/s). I believe the main reason for this drive’s performance is it’s perpendicular recording method.

Works great in the Thinkpad T60 that my job supplied to me. I wanted another drive to put a gaming build on for when I’m not in the office. this drive gives me the space needed to load another complete OS with all the extras (games, utilities, and the other extras that geeks like) without worring about running out of usable space on the60 GB unit that my system came with. The great bonus is that come Monday morning I simply swap out the drives and I’m ready to work without having to change out any configurations.

I purchased this hard drive to replace the smaller hard drive that came with my Playstation 3. Installation was painfully easy. Now I have a ton more space on my system. For this size notebook hard drive, the price is pretty good as well. It’s also at least as quiet as the stock Seagate drive that comes with the system. I would recommend this hard drive to anyone looking to upgrade their PS3s hard drive.
After installing and formatting the drive, I found out the only 130 GB of the 160 GB would be available to use. That’s a pretty significant loss of space. This doesn’t really have anything to do with the drive itself, but thought it would be worth noting. Also, I ordered the drive on a Thursday and it was delivered on Friday without any special shipping method. Newegg always amazes me with how quickly they get my stuff to my door.

This drive is definately a step up from the 60 GB Hitachi TravelStar that came with my Inspiron e1505. But it does vibrate my laptop more than the other drive (no big deal really) and you can hear it running (then again you can hear the old drive running). But this one is quieter, MUCH quieter, when seeking\writing\reading, to the point that you can’t hear it in a normal environment at a normal distance from your computer. It seems a little hot, but then again I remember my 60GB as being hotter :). The last nit I have is that the drive takes more juice to run than my last one, impacting the battery life of the computer noticeably (maybe 15 minutes less…not sure yet)…interestingly the old Hitachi didn’t even have a power connector. But overall this was a great buy…great bang for your buck.

Installed in my 1.83 Ghz CD Macbook pro. Removing the top cover of MBP was the hardest installation steps. Drive worked as promised. Fast and the drain of battery is only slightly higher than the 80 Ghz it replaces.
Because it is OEM, came unformatted. Not detected by MBP when using it via an external USB SATA enclosure. Had to format as Fat32 on a PC first for detection to occur. After that smooth sailing.

Wow! What a great HDD for the price! Its super silent and works just as fast as the one I replaced in my 60GB PS3. I HIGHLY Recommend this HDD for anyone who wants to upgrade thier PS3 HDD to a bigger size. You get 130GB Usable space for only ~$100. After installing FFXI on it I still have 120GB Space left to use! I couldnt be happier.
Other than getting the screws off of the PS3s regular 60GB HDD Drive case, it was simple to install this new HDD in my PS3. After putting in the new HDD in the PS3 I turned on the system and PS3 detected the new HDD and it formatted the HDD, 5 min later I had it completely installed and works like a charm. Did I mention it works so quietly I hafta put my ear up to the HDD port to even hear it. Oblivion even seems to run better for me now. Im very satisfied! Upgrade your PS3 HDD Today! ^^

Great upgrade! I got fed up with Vista on my new Compaq laptop, so I upgraded :) to XP with this drive. I now have twice the space and a more functional operating system, and it’s a fast, little drive! The SATA adapter attached without a problem and the laptop saw the entire drive on power-up.Please stop complaining about “losing” space. Hard drive manufacturers give the excuse that a gigabyte is 1 billion bytes in order to artificially inflate their perceived capacity (read: marketing). Computers have always recognized a gigabyte as 1,024^3, or apprx 1.073 billion. So, the hard drive will ALWAYS look like their capacity is smaller than advertised through the operating system. Blame the hard drive marketing departments, not the hard drive itself or even the OS.
